These Picture Talk cards are a great addition to our homeschool communication activities. I really like that they use real life pictures because they give the kids something concrete to look at while we talk about what they notice, what might be happening, and what the people in the picture could be thinking or feeling. The cards come with lots of question ideas, but I also like that we don't have to use them as a strict question and answer activity. We can simply look at a picture, make comments, tell a little story about it, or follow wherever the conversation naturally goes. That makes them easy to adapt for different communication levels. With 50 different pictures, there's plenty of variety to keep the activity from feeling repetitive. They're useful for storytelling, describing, emotions, making observations, and building conversation skills while still keeping everything relaxed and visual. Dadonda Maggett

I love these cards, they're good quality, educational, and feel durable. We have an older set from another brand and one of my biggest complaints about those is how dated the pictures feel. These are much more modern and actually show clothing, settings and a variety of situations that my kids recognize from their own lives. That makes a surprisingly big difference when you're trying to get a child talking about what they see. There are plenty of questions and different ways to use each picture, so they don't feel like something we'll go through once and be done with. Nikki

Weve really been enjoying these Picture Talk cards with our 4-year-old. The real-life pictures are engaging and theres a great variety of situations, so the conversations dont start to feel repetitive. I like that you can use them as a simple game by taking turns choosing a card, looking at the picture, and answering the questions, which makes it feel more like play than a learning activity. The questions encourage storytelling, emotional awareness, problem-solving, and talking about how other people might be feeling. The cards themselves are also really nice quality. Theyre thick, sturdy, and have a nice textured finish that feels like theyll hold up well to frequent use. There are plenty of different cards and questions to keep us coming back to it without running out of things to talk about. This is a fun, low-prep activity that I think would be especially great for preschool and early elementary-aged kids. Taylor

These cards are a great way to get kids talking and thinking beyond simple answers. The real-life pictures are engaging, and I really like the variety of questions that encourage storytelling, emotions, problem-solving, and social skills. Theyre easy to incorporate into homeschool lessons or just use casually for meaningful conversations. Theyre a fun and educational resource that can be used again and again. SS

These Picture Talk cards are a fun way to get kids thinking and talking without it feeling like a lesson. The pictures give them something easy to focus on, and the questions help encourage storytelling, conversation, and sharing their own ideas. I like that there are so many different questions, so you can use the cards over and over without it getting repetitive. Theyre especially nice for practicing communication and social-emotional skills in a fun, low-pressure way. Great little activity for home, classrooms, or therapy settings. Lola P.

Skillmatics honestly creates the best tools for teaching complex skills, and this is not exception! Each photo has clear situations occurring accompanied by thoughtful questions that promote everything included on the cover: social and self awareness, emotional expression, decision making, and relationship skills. The age range on this tool says 4-9, but I can absolutely see this being used with people of literally any age I cluding adults with intellectual disabilities who might benefit from more social awareness. This set was very thoughtfully made, and I'm very grateful for the team at Skillmatics for their continued excellence in the products they create. Amazon Customer

These conversation cards are great! I love that they use real pictures and appropriate questions to encourage meaningful conversations. They follow three simple steps: Observe, Story-Building, and Reflection. My daughter has special needs and a speech delay, and these cards are a very helpful tool to encourage her to talk while keeping her focused and interested. Her therapist also likes using them for speech practice at home. Overall, they are engaging, easy to use, and a great tool for building communication skills. She Is N. Marie

These cards are such a nice way to get kids talking without it feeling like a lesson. The real life pictures give them something interesting to look at, and the open ended questions encourage them to explain what they see and come up with their own stories. I like that there are so many different questions and ways to use each card. It can lead to conversations about feelings, everyday situations, and what a child might do in different circumstances, while also encouraging imagination and vocabulary. The cards are easy to use and dont require much setup, which makes them great for home or classroom activities. Its a fun screen free option that gives kids and adults a chance to actually sit and talk together. HummBaby

I work with students who have learning disabilities, and one area many of them struggle with is making predictions and inferences. What I like about these cards is that they use real-life pictures rather than written stories to help students access those skills that visual approach makes a big difference for my group. I haven't used them in the classroom yet, but I plan to use them with a small group and am optimistic based on the content and variety of situations/questions included. The card quality is decent nothing fancy, but it holds up fine for classroom use. I'll update this review once I've actually run some sessions, but based on what I've seen so far, this looks like a solid resource for social-emotional learning and speech/communication work. Noel

This is a solid 4.8/4.7 from me, but I've leaned towards 4 just because 5 means it's perfect and above and beyond. It is verrrrry near that mark though. My little girl, who is almost 2, gravitated to this and was satisfied to sit and look at each and every picture. So unfortunately, even though I had every intention of screening it, we went through it the first time together. Lol. The great thing is that most of these pictures are really great for, like it says, explaining and identifying social situations, and I love that they considered diversity as well. I saw at least one picture with what I think was an interracial couple, and as a lady with a mixed child, I can't tell you how prized that is and how grateful I feel that my little girl would see our little family reflected elsewhere in print, even if it's not exactly the same. So great. My little one is a little too young for us to use the questions just yet, so I didn't pay as much attention to them, but I did scan a couple and I think they are GREAT for an older child. I also really love the idea they pitched of using these for storytelling. I have dabbled in writing myself, and getting the creative juices flowing can be difficult. To start that kind of curiosity and imagination in a child is just... gold. You get to take that kind of creativity with you everywhere! So great. The card quality itself is also good. Not too thick, not too thin. The cards fit into the box they come in. The only bummer for me is that a handful of images seem to be encouraging or reinforcing ideas that I don't want to put into my child's head. Now... let's get this straight. I think they did a GREAT job including every day pictures (a lot of them are kind of stock and staged and nicey-nicey, but)... I LOVE for example, that they have an image on bullying. That's something you're just going to see and what a great way to get to start talking about that in a safe environment. I also love that there is an image of two girls (maybe siblings even), fighting over a toy. Again, this is something a child would very likely see-- even at school or a friends' house, and again I think it's great to have this game as a way to start talking about that. But then there are some things I don't want to put into my child's head: like being afraid of the dark, vegetables not being the absolute worst, getting on top of stools or chairs to get something that a parent has said no to and breaking things... I felt a little more on edge with these pictures and thought, "Dang! Wish I had screened these and taken those out first!" Even at her age, I just don't want these things to be soaked up. Now, you could argue that these things are ALSO things that a child may see and that these are ALSO an opportunity to talk about them... but it is what it is. Not my cup of tea. Still, I think that the game makers always run this risk, and so I appreciate and applaud their bravery in making the game anyway. I maybe wish that some of those tropes had been altered slightly or flipped on their head so that they weren't sustaining an age old idea (being scared of the dark; veggies are nasty). Why not show an image of a kid rejecting some kind of slop vs veggies? Or being scared of SOMEthing but not necessarily the dark? I don't know. Sorry. Off talking about it again. All in all, this is really fantastic and I think they did a standout job. If I were in love with every picture, it would probably be strange, wouldn't it...? So maybe it's only to be expected that a 4.7 would come from every customer. Well done, game makers. I can't wait until my little one and I start to have real conversations about these vs me just talking at my little girl and her getting a kick out of the pictures. :) Amazon Customer

?I grabbed these Picture Talk cards expecting a five-minute warm-up for our morning homeschool routine, but they sparked full-blown investigative debates at our table. The card stock has enough heft to survive sticky juice spills, and the real-life photos completely bypass standard cartoon fluff so my kid actually pauses to assess the scene. Instead of boring yes-or-no drills, the prompts dig into emotional context, cause, and effect like an engaging tabletop quest. ?We pull a few cards every morning to dissect social cues and piece together backstories, turning what looks like a simple flashcard deck into a serious workout for critical thinking. It is surprisingly tough to find speech and conversation tools that treat kids like observant detectives instead of passive listeners, but this little box nails the balance completely. Nexi

Goodness gracious, these cards turned my kids into some serious chatterboxes! I suppose that's exactly the point, but be prepared because it took us forever to get through a single card once everyone got talking. ?? I really love how engaged they were, though. They stayed focused throughout the conversation, and it was fascinating to hear how differently each child interpreted the same picture. It also created opportunities for them to learn from one another and talk about other ways of looking at a situation. The pictures are clear and vivid, and the cards themselves are a nice quality and thicker than regular paper, although certainly not indestructible in little hands. My only random complaint is that the box was ridiculously difficult to open. Overall, though, this is a fantastic tool for getting kids talking, thinking, and listening to each other. As a speech-language pathologist Im always looking for language-based therapy materials. These cards can be used for a variety of purposes (verb sentences, WH questions, inferencing, identifying problem and solution, predicting, social skills, etc.). The pictures are of real people which is fantastic for all ages. The one thing I dont like about these cards is the grid pattern on the pictures. The back of each card has prompts if youre not sure what questions to ask. This kit also comes with instructions on how to use the cards which is great for parents or new therapists. These will be a great addition to my therapy materials.

What a great set of cards that open an imagination, invokes empathy, sharpens powers of observation and promotes conversation. There are 50 pictures of real people doing everyday things and the back of the photo has a set of questions and "what if" queries that mirrors real life situations or experiences. I really like the 'what if" for the deeper conversation of "if this was you, how would you act and what would you feel?" We have had a great time with this card set and used it at the dinner table. Everybody wants a turn. You observe the photo and ask questions or you relate your immediate impression of what you see. We also like to add an imagination dimension of "what do you think the people will do next" which leads to inventive adventures! It has been a great hit especially with our 7 year old participant. I really like these cards because they actually get children talking instead of giving them something with one correct answer. The photographs are real pictures, which gives them plenty to notice and talk about. There are questions on the cards, but you can also easily come up with your own depending on the childs age and what they notice in the picture. I especially like that the questions go beyond simply asking what is in the picture. Children can make up a story, talk about what someone might be thinking or feeling, explain what they think could happen next, and relate the picture to something in their own life. With 50 cards and so many different questions, there is a lot here to use without it becoming repetitive. These would be great in a classroom, especially for small groups or one-on-one activities where you want to work on vocabulary, conversation, storytelling, and expressing ideas. VC

I used the Skillmatics Picture Talk cards with preschoolers, and the set has a bright, engaging look that pulls kids in right away. Each card has a clear illustration with enough detail to spark conversation without overwhelming young learners. The size is easy for small hands to hold, and the cards feel sturdy enough for regular classroom use. The prompts on each card give you simple ways to guide storytelling or activate prior experiences. They help children notice characters, actions, and settings, and the questions encourage them to share what they see. The variety of scenes makes it easy to shift between topics, which keeps the group interested. The cards also work well for turn?taking because each child can respond to a different part of the picture. A helpful detail is how versatile the cards are. They work for vocabulary practice, social?emotional discussions, or quiet one?on?one time. The illustrations give you natural openings to talk about feelings, problem solving, or sequencing. The cards also store neatly in the box, and the finish wipes clean if they get handled during snack time or art activities. Another benefit is how well the cards support open?ended thinking. The illustrations include themes common to any household and are inclusive of many types of communities. Children can build their own stories from the pictures, and the simple prompts help them expand their ideas. This makes the set useful for both structured lessons and free play storytelling. Overall, this is a thoughtful set of conversation and storytelling cards for early learners. The sturdy build, clear illustrations, and flexible prompts make it a practical tool for classrooms, homeschool setups, and small group activities. Kelli Gonzalez

This picture talk card set is a really cute way to get your kids imaginations rolling. I have a 4yr old son and 7yr old stepdaughter and they both actually like to do these. The questions and prompts are great for opening your childrens minds. I will say that the quality of the pictures arent the best, they are kind of hazy but the print of the questions is easy to read. Tim and Emily
